If you´re jetting off to Lanzarote this summer then you could visit three Canary Islands in one go. As both Fuerteventura and La Graciosa are near neighbours of this popular, Spanish owned holiday destination that is situated just off the coast of West Africa.
There are officially seven islands in the Canaries – but La Graciosa is often referred to as the eighth. As it is home to around 600 residents. And all of these islands boast great weather and sunshine all year round. Which makes them an attractive and affordable alternative to better known options such as the Caribbean for anyone seeking a good value winter break.
A good deal of tourists are starting to book villas and apartments in Lanzarote primarily online with the actual owners or smaller local holiday agencies these days, thanks to advances in web based booking systems. Just about all Lanzarote luxury villas boast their own personal private swimming pools, as well as plenty of other household luxuries. Whilst the large majority of apartments are located on managed holiday complexes.
There is loads to do and discover on Lanzarote but if you are staying in any of the fantastic quality villas in Lanzarote that are offered for rent and fancy getting away from the pool area you’ll definitely want to embark on a day trip across to the neighbouring islands. As both La Graciosa and Fuerteventura are easily reached in under 30 minutes and fortunately the sea crossing to both is usually pretty calm, especially in the summertime.
Fuerteventura – or strong wind – is the second largest island in the Canaries chain. But despite it´s size it is still largely untouched by tourism despite welcoming close to 1.5 million visitors year. And is not at all densely populated either.
La Graciosa – or the Gracious One – is much smaller by comparison and totally undeveloped. With no tarmac roads and few cars. The local residents here get around in 4×4 taxis which also transport visitors to the best beaches around the island, such as La Concha on the opposite side of La Graciosa from the only occupied village of Caleta del Sebo. Visiting La Graciosa is much like stepping back in time as the pace of life here is so slow, even by comparison with neighbouring Lanzarote.
For a good sunshine holiday at any time of the year, a break on Lanzarote will unquestionably leave you healthy and fully rested whenever you return home.
