Lanzarote, the 4th largest of the Canary Islands has a standing as a leading sunshine holiday location. This is well deserved, because there are approximately 100 excellent beaches to discover here and the climate is excellent even during winter. However this climate also helps to draw in a great deal of sports tourists and triathletes from across Europe, and in particular when the celebrated Iron Man competition starts.

The Iron Man event takes place on Lanzarote every year in late May and draws in around one thousand challengers. Most of whom have the capacity to complete the course including a 3km swim, 180 km grueling bike ride and a full length marathon within just 12 hours or so, with the race leaders completing the course in, around 8 hours or so. This competition is so amazing a large number of holidaymakers plan their vacations and end up booking villas in Lanzarote to coincide with the event, which is commonly held in late May.

The area also benefits from a regular flow of sports people month in month out, many of who travel in order to train in kinder weather conditions, especially in the much cooler times elsewhere of Europe. Large groups of cyclists in their vibrantly decorated cycling tops wind their way like colouful ants on the island well maintained roads and quite a few of these also book the flexibility of private accommodation throughout their stay. Which naturally helps to increase the need for Playa Blanca villas and / or Puerto del Carmen villas for event prep work, together with a well deserved holiday following that.

Vacationers wanting to look into the island in much more depth will value the spectacular projects of Manrique Cesar who sought to create a series of one-of-a-kind sightseeing opportunities that would provide a worthy alternative to the scores of golf courses and water parks that are so prevalent in other places in Spain. As an example sites such as the Jameos del Agua, which portrayed exactly his wish to merge architecture and nature.

For anyone more inspired by culture you will find numerous museums and monuments just waiting to be explored for instance Castillo de San Gabriel and Castillo de Santa Barbara. Or should you be partial to a drop of wine the Lanzarote wine museum.

The blend of high rise free vacation resorts, first class beaches along with wonderful natural scenery make Lanzarote a fantastic and phenomenal holiday destination, so be certain it’s on your shortlist.
