Lanzarote has earned a reputation as a package holiday destination over the years but increasingly more and more independent travellers are discovering the island. Drawn by wonderful weather, more affordable flights, accommodation and scenery that really is out of this world. There are lots of natural wonders to explore here. Most of which were created by large scale volcanic activity which hit the island in the early 18th century.
Tourists have been flocking to the fourth largest of the Canary Islands ever since the package holiday industry first took off in the 1970´s. And Lanzarote continues to attract millions of visitors today. Many of whom like nothing more than basking in the sun, which shines all year round here.
The island however boasts enough stunning sights to lure them away from their Lanzarote apartments for a day or two to see what the island has to offer. If you fancy a gentle stroll round one of Lanzarote’s picturesque villages or perhaps skimming across the top of the waves on a jet ski, Lanzarote’s outstanding range of visitor activities and attraction will be sure to please even the most demanding travellers. With so much to do it can be hard to choose what to do or where to go, but many peoples lists include:
The Aqua Park – to some it may be sacrilege to visit a water park when you are surrounded but superb beaches and friendly coastlines but there is a child in all of us. The Aqua Park has an excellent range of slides, flumes and pools and is guaranteed to prove a popular hit for families of all ages. It’s fun for all the family and makes for an unforgettable day out.
Or perhaps :
If these are not to your taste you could also try The Cesar Manrique Foundation: This stunning landscaping feat was originally designed as Cesar Manrique’s own home. Manrique once again as in most of his work managed to take existing geology (in this case series of lava bubbles) and turn it into a truly world class piece of living architecture. Although his life was tragically cut short the foundation celebrates his positive impact and contribution to the island and if you have any interest in the Islands cultural, definitely a place to visit.
If your heading for the north of the island take the time to explore the majestic Valley of 1000 Palms. An oasis of Canarian palms created by villagers in Haria. Who have been planting a palm to mark the birth of every baby locally for centuries.
