How to waste time in an airport

Waiting is what you will do most whilst spending time in an airport. Short of applying for airport jobs while you wait for your flight, what else can you do to keep boredom at bay? Here are some suggestions.

Airport book shop

It is possible to spend quite a while browsing the book shelves. Subtly flicking through magazines can also be done in a bookshop.

Internet

Most airports have areas where you can either connect to Wi-Fi from your own laptop or use one in an internet cafe. Accessing social network sites such as Facebook or just searching random websites can use up a number of hours. You may find that you are even able to get some work done if you are feeling productive.

Airport displays

In some airports there are displays and museums that you could take time to look at. These can range from F1 cars with loitering sales people trying to rope you in, to official airport museums. You could find by wandering around that airport that other things catch your eye and are worth an explore.

People watching

Some people like sitting back and watching the world go by. People watching can be interesting in an airport as there are so many different cultures on display. Most individuals do not take kindly to being stared at, so do consider this whilst aimlessly watching the world go by. The most enjoyable people watching can be done with a drink in hand and seated somewhere comfortable.

Do some writing

Maybe use the time to write some postcards, or even just journal your time away so far. If you are the creative type, you could amuse yourself by jotting down the funny things that you see in the airport. You might think of something you want to do when you get to your destination.

Make a new friend

You could have a go at conversing with someone waiting near by you. Some people see this as an invasion of their privacy and you really should leave them alone if it is clear that you are making them uneasy. You could, however, be pleasantly surprised and find someone who is quite happy and willing to have a good chat.
